8-core mac, today or later?

ok , i may have been worng it doesnt look like Barcelona is the most optimal chip but im looking into buying a new chip , which out of the bacalona and the penryn would be the most preferable chip to work with red?

Great link, that documnet has a lot of info. It is a bit old, and many of those dates have been pushed back already, but it gives an accurate overall picture for the sake of comparision.

I plan to own a Penryn CPU before 2007 is over, but I will not be limited by Apple's actions or decisions.

HP, IBM/Lenovo and Dell are now accepting orders from enterprise and large business customers for Penryn based systems. They're all saying delivery in January.

I would say that the possibility of new Mac Pro systems at MacWorld in January is pretty high.
