exception being line producers of course, they live to say NO in the most creative and imaginative and extremely effective ways :)

That said, Im convinced cyber forensics will be used in this situation, especially as the resources to do so could be reimbursed with an arrest, recovery and conviction. ala this generous reward, which I assume, also extends to law enforcement.

Breaking and Entering, Trespassing, Robbery, Trafficking in Stolen goods, Fraud (When selling Merch to another)...

Also, Industrial Espionage (Sometimes intellectual property theft), Racketeering, Conspiracy (if applicable)...

    There's definitely jail here...

Civil penalties can also be attached.

    Tommi,

In Harris County (Houston, Texas), criminal theft is anything above $USD 5,000.00 --- assuming you can get the DA to take the case (unfortunately, not always a given in the 4th largest city in the US). Convictions can lead to jail time based on a hand full of variables.

For civil damages, Off Hollywood would have to sue. Jurisdiction in that instance would most likely shape up to be a bar exam question, given what we know from reduser (ie. US company owes the commercial property, stolen on foreign soil, thieves may not be residents of that country, etc).

Assuming the company gets the camera back, damages would be, in most cases, limited to the "economic impact" of the time without the camera.

Please keep your eyes out for the Angenieux Optimo 15-40mm - SN s/n 1591382

Very possible that the thieves could keep the EPIC on ice and try to sell the glass.

    Find this lens.
Sorry to hear of this disturbing incident.
If you were identified as a film/TV crew and targeted by experienced thieves (not uncommon in Europe) then your chances of seeing the kit are very slim.

Having had a $20k item of kit stolen in rural France, I sympathise with the additional stress of dealing with foreign police or judicial system.

In my case when the item was recovered (by my own detective work) there was no justice, just a French shrug and accusations by locals that I had setup the theft as an insurance scam!
Although the 6 months of detective work in trying to pinpoint the thieves and limit the loss to my insurance company did eventually achieve a result, it also unfortunately prolonged the torment and was a regular reminder that I had been "done over" and so was quite an emotional drain.
In my case, it wasn't worth the effort to chase them down.

    All the best
