Im a newbie and have to start with "great web-site!!" :)
Here is my present workflow (please throw in any opinion, I want to learn):
RED footage shot at 4096x2048, 23.976
REDCine X RAW no edits
Output Option 1 using DNxHD 175, 23.976, 8bit
Output Option 2 using DNxHD 220, 29.97, 8bit
Avid AMA project set at 1080p, 29.97
Export Option 1 edits using QT Uncompressed at 24 (only option in QT settings)
Export Option 2 edits using QT Uncompressed at 29.97
Burn both options (BD) at varying fields e.g. progressive, upper and lower.
Now the workflow seems simple enough but where Im finding problems is the frame-rate.
RCX Output Option 1 settings all failed as far as Blu-Ray discs except for this combination:
DNxHD 175 23.976 > Avid > Export QT 29.97 > Toast set to Lower field
The BD clips burned have the jitters (my best analogy). Viewed on varying players from Sony BD to Sony PS3.
Now I finally got around to testing the DNxHD 220, 29.97 and found this frame rate works perfectly in Avid. We use this pan shot clip to judge and found the DNxHD 175, 23.976 was tearing in the display option (Sony LMD HD-SDI).
I will convert all the files I've been testing to DNxHD 220 and see how this works out at the end (BD burning).
If anyone has any input please join in.
