The monitor appears to be attached by a cable. I've seen this with all of RED cams. So it goes from the monitor to the Red Brain I assume?

Why doesn't RED make it so you can slide or snap the monitor in to the body without having any loose cables around. I know this seems minor, but I'm just really curious. It would look so much "cleaner" and less things in the way when you are doing the run and gun...less to obstructions.
There is a shorter interconnect cable than the one shown in the video; in practice there is nothing to snag there (see attached image)

I think it is so you can mount the monitor wherever you want and not be locked into having it only in one place.
Correct. Up to 10 ft away from the Brain as a minimum, maximum range to be confirmed.

Also it allows us to offer several different types of monitoring option, such as Touchscreen LCD, EVF etc

Handle with a strap. Wide strap.

Not so thrilled about handle design (shape/depth) but willing to adapt because of everything else. Still voting for another handle design down the line, if possible.

The thing is why can't they make so you can just snap or slide it in and then have an option for a cable...now you have the best of both worlds? I'm sure they thought of this..just wondering what would prevent this from being engineered this way.

Would love to hear from RED or anyone that knows the answer to this question. Thanks.

Well, I don't work for RED, but...

Having a slide in monitor mounting plate would require additional machining of the brain. And it would require additional mounting points/brackets. And it would require very sturdy (i.e. weather and idiot-proof) non-standard connectors.

All of that means more complexity, more time, and more money.

The cable is not very large and, really could very easily be taped or otherwise secured quite close in to the camera and/or monitor, if not to the camera and/or monitor. In that configuration, it the monitor might as well be directly connected to the camera. Then, it's really only a problem if you have lots of stuff really violently hitting or scratching your camera...which would probably be knocking the monitor/evf out of alignment anyway and making the shot so shaky it's useless. In which case, I imagine the question becomes why you've thrown your camera into a pit of wolverines. It's not just going to pop off if the camera brushes up against people in a crowd or the like.

Ultimately, I think being able to monitor from anywhere is a way bigger benefit than having to deal with one cable which comes in a variety of lengths to fit different setups.

Yup. For sure. And also choice of monitoring options as noted above.

RED's design lets the user choose, who wouldn't want that?

I'm all for the side handle, and have little need for the I/O module except for one thing:

Any chance you can add a single 4-pin aux. power/camera start/stop lemo port to the side handle?

Right now everything is so compact with the side SSD, the side handle, and the small audio inputs on the front. It's a dream.

I only see one thing missing that I'd really like, an aux. power port w/start/stop (like the back of the Red One) - run your microforce or ??? w/out needing any additional modules.

I know the brain is stuffed, no room - but any chance you could fit it on the side handle?

If you add it to the side handle...I won't ask for another thing
