  1. #1 Best Card for CS5 with a MAC
Hi, at present l have a Mac with CS5 running 64bit also running FCP, my current output to an external monitor via HD SDi is through a Matrox LE, which does not support CS5 what other cards can be recommended for CS5 with play back via HD SDi, l am not running red rocket at present or will be in the near future.

Timelines are normally of mixed footage not just RED

Ay recommendations will be most helpful.

There's no perfect solution for the Mac: nVidia's SDI output (expensive anyway) is not supported under OS X.

My Red is called Vertov after a Russian avantgarde filmmaker, a pioneer in modern cinematography, a true revolutionary who later suffered under Stalin's bureaucracy.

With that in mind is it better to steer clear of CS5 due to its lack of third party support and go with FCP with all its rendering issues, nothing is ever straight forward :)

Is it because CS5 is not really accepted yet within the community!

I heard, not verified, that the BBC went Adobe Premiere.

Not heard that, if thats true its a big move as BBC was FCP and Avid, this will have an impact on editing software used in the UK, where the BBC people in some way or other tend to follow.

I've always had good luck with AJA products.

I don't know which of their cards support CS5, but I know at least the new Kona 3G does.

They are on back order at present, and so I can't give you any guidance from first hand experience, but I'd be happy to report back once the card shows up.

Given my excellent experience with AJA I'm confident it will work.

    Cheers,

    Steve

Yes, the BBC have bought 2000 licenses of CS5. It's all part of their latest round of cost-cutting, nothing more...

My understanding is that BBC wanted the Master Suite for After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator and to use Premiere to be compatible with outside vendors using Premiere.

In other words... it does not reflect any material change in the software they are using in house. Adobe products have always been part of the mix there.

    Getting back on topic...

I am impressed with the Black Magic Decklink 3D card. Its $995. It works with CS5.

It also works with Resolve, which makes it a high priority for me right now.

The fact that it supports stereo workflow is important for me going forward, but not an immediate consideration.

Of more immediate concern... the DeckLink Extreme supports 8 channels of audio over HDMI, where the lower end products only support 2 channels.
