Thanks for the confirmation.
I don't know if "freaking" is accurate -- maybe "concerned" is better.Too many here are freaking on the price of this standard Epic.
What might have happened is that it cost more than the $1,000
to add HDRx™ as the S35 sensor is couple times bigger than the 2/3.
So maybe it costs couple thousand more..who knows..we have to
wait.
Yeah, but depending on where you shop and whether you get the Sony lenses and/or 4:4:4 S-log upgrade, you might be looking at $13.3K (B&H, no lenses) to $25K+ (MSRP w/ lenses plus extra for the future upgrade). Even the lower figure is almost 50% more than the 2009 price (the last one we saw) plus $2K (not $1K) for HDRx. That would be a sizable jump (a difference of almost equal to the fixed Scarlet's total price). I guess I'm hoping it'll be much less. They are trying to make the best cameras at the best price as quoted above. Sony has thrown a S35 out there and you can assume Red will be competitive price wise with it.
Just for the record, Jim Jannard has said, "No large price increase other than what was stated. If we add boards and ASICs, it will cost more. The only reason we would do that is for EasyHDR and HDRx. That would only be for Scarlet 2/3", 2/3" Fixed and Scarlet S35." I know this is subject to change, but I hope Jim sticks to it as much as possible, even with the rebranding of the Scarlet S35.
Who wants to get together a group buy on coal?
Couldn't resist.
Can we all go back to being geeked up about the new cameras?
I trust Jim and Red Team can figure out a naming strategy that will not flummox rental house personnel. Producers,... they may be beyond help... I kid, I kid...
Cheers - #19
I happen to have a nice pile of coal already... Who wants to buy? :)
Anyway, this discussion is pretty F'd up... I don't care what Jim wants to name the cameras, he can call them whatever he wants. If I have any say in it, I would suggest he names them whatever will make them roll off the assembly line the fastest.
I think EPIC-S, EPIC-X and EPIC-M are fine. Anyone who follows the forum, even casually, should understand. If they spell out what the letter designators mean, people will understand. I preferred EPIC-Light, but I understand that some of the more insecure types will have an issue with anything "light". So, on that note, I think Jim should consider naming the EPIC 617 "The Compensator". ...Anyone want to compare "sensor" sizes? I bet mine's bigger.
I do agree with Epic-S, makes total sense as it is the "S" of Scarlett.
I do agree with the Epic- X as I love it form the start ;)
But I just simply can't really get my mind to like the Epic-M as for some reason this camera,
been that it is the New Flag SHip camera of RED, an "M" does not do it for me ;(
I would love to see something that gives it the Grandiosity that it Deserves ;)
But if this is the final out put on the camera, I'm sure I'll come to Love it just the same hehe.
