The fireman is right. Redmote Pro can't come out soon enough. Where is the 3rd party onslaught of wireless FF units that directly control the eos motors in-lens? no motors involved. Just electronics. Revolutionary product opportunity. huge market. No producers.?

yeah what is the deal with the red rock... they have a video of it "working". I am gonna call them next week and ask why its taking so long. :) If Red could just make a good one that wasn't too expensive that would be great.

I will take a stab and say the redmote pro gets unveiled at nab and features an onboard wireless monitor.

    VA-POR-WARE!

Calling them won't do you any good, they don't pick up their phones anyway. And their facebook page for the MicroRemote is a load of cr@p hahaha. I'm so glad I gave up waiting for that BS product.

I'm a little confused why most of these wireless follow focus systems are actually same price or cheaper than any of the recommended dial follow focus (i.e. non-wireless or even long wired). Curious how this pricing works. Are we talking about totally differently performing products? If you were in a standard, locked down, tripod for studio configuration, is there a reason you would insist on using a non-wireless follow focus?

they arent cheaper....the listed items are one piece of many to make it workable.
for example the arri wcu-3 to make it workable you need a whole bundle

from abelcine for iris and focus only
    http://www.abelcine.com/store/Arri-2...ontrol-System/
    PACKAGE INCLUDES

    (1) AR-312810 – Arri WCU-3 Wireless Compact Unit
    (1) AR-312808 – Arri UMC-3A Universal Motor Controller
    (2) AR-312800 – Arri CLM-3 Controlled Lens Motor
    (2) AR-312804 – Arri Clamp Console for 15mm/19mm
    (2) AR-312806 – Arri Gear Z=60 / 0.8
    (2) AR-312802– Arri Cable for CLM-3
    (1) AR-312812– Arri Cable for UMC-3 to RED P-Tap

    thats around 23 000 dollar.
add a case, backup cables, and batteries and you end up with 24 000 dollars.
it brings around 250 dollars a day when renting it out.

we will go arri wcu -3a, although the cmotion is better in my humble opinion. since we shoot ourself, but refinance equipment through rentals too, we go for Arri...makes more money on the rental market. that simple for us.

Birger and Viewfactor Impero did already that revolution. It was a really amazing combo.
Maybe 3rd parties are now locked out manufacturing because Red owns some copyright on the transmisson?

Thanks for the breakdown. I was going to comment back about the much cheaper W-FF systems talked about even this post, but your comment on rental returns and financing your gear explains the "ARRI tax" perfectly. Well put. Thank you.

i learned the hard way who buys cheap buys twice ;)
there is a truth in it. when buying gear i watch out for several things.
since i am not rich i have to be carefull.

mattebox for example. 80% of the time a arri lmb5 is used. its the bestseller.
so no need to buy a arri MB 20. although i like it. but resale is harder.
with an ff4 you can make money for a couple of years and still sell for 80% retail.

this works for me. doesnt have to work for others though.
