Post audio and video sync

Hi all,

I've seen some posts somewhat related to this, so I apologize if I'm treading old ground.

We just wrapped a shoot where we recorded audio to an external device (nothing recorded on camera). So I have to link the audio manually. I'm working with Redcine-X and Premiere CS5. I was trying to use Redcine-X to attach the audio, which embeds the audio path into the RMD file. However, Premiere seems to ignore this path, and I still only get video. Perhaps it's the way I'm importing the footage, or there is something else I need to do?

Has anyone successfully attached audio in Redcine-X, and then read it into Premiere? Thanks all in advance!

Huh? Uli, hows that? Does Pluraleyes work with R3D files in Prepro CS5?
Please elaborate. I would love to know how you use it? are you on a PC or Mac?

I'm just curious, maybe there is something I'm missing, but why wouldn't you just bring the sound into Premiere? Plural Eyes would only help you if you had a scratch audio track with video.

He does have a scratch audio track with r3d video. I looked everywhere I don't see Pluraleyes working with R3d audio. can someone point me in the right direction?

I am not sure about whether or not Plural Eyes will work if you are working with .R3Ds in Premier.
The only way I have used this software is on rendered clips from RedcineX. So we had fed audio to the camera, and then Plural Eyes looks at the waveform of the audio attached to your video and lines it up with the .Wav files. This process was relatively simple, but was often not always accurate. The software then lays everything down on to 1 timeline in a sequential order.

If you require frame accurate syncing the best way is still to do it manually, in my opinion that is. There is other software that will also do it by TC, but the TC is often out by a frame here or there when jammed on set, so at some point within the day it often goes out by a frame or two. Mind you you could still use Plural eyes and then check each clip and change any that need slight tweaking.

Some good information here. The previous posters are correct... there was nothing recorded to camera.

I actually don't mind synching this stuff manually (this is for a short film). But since you can sync this stuff in Redcine-X, and save it to the RMD, I'd like Premiere to be able to read the RMD and be able to find the corresponding audio file. I assume that's the way it *should* work, otherwise why save the audio path and filename to the RMD file if none of the editing packages support it? Currently, when I sync manually in Redcine-X and save to the RMD, Premiere doesn't pick up the audio link that gets saved in the file. I assumed I was just doing something wrong, but perhaps Premiere doesn't support this yet?
