  1. #1 EDL2R3D Trim Tool (Mac only)
    Hello

I wrote a new Applescript trim tool using REDline : EDL2R3D Trim tool

    it does the following :

    - read an EDL edited with offline or proxys (from FCP, Avid and others...)
    - relink to original R3D files
    - trim R3D clips to a new folder (adding handles if needed)
    - copy RMD files to trimmed clips (optional)
    - recreate proxy files for trimmed clips (optional)
    - create a .lua script file to reconstruct the timeline linked to the trimmed R3D clips (handles are hidden) and import trimmed clips (with handles) into REDCINE-X bin
    - open REDCINE-X and load the lua file

It can be useful if you need to send an edit to a conform facility or some clips to VFX without sending whole R3Ds or to archive a finished edit keeping only what you've edited.

Demo version works with the first 7 edits in your EDL, full version has no limitation. It needs REDCINE-X version 3xx installed in our Application folder to work.

It is offered as a free 'update' to my previous scripts for anyone who already have a license. I will write the XML version soon too.

If you paypal me 15 USD (or more if you can) to mika@nerim.net you will receive a license to unlock all my scripts.

Please send feedback or report bugs in the thread or by email. I'll do my best to fix any issue asap.

    Thanks guys

Most of what this new script does can be done manually using RED tools (or will once EDL import is stable in REDCINE-X) except maybe relinking a timeline to the trimmed R3D clips... and do it automatically within an easy to use script interface.

if you test it and find it useful or if it is lacking features please do send feedback so I can check it out. I will see if next version can support dissolves and speed effects a bit further than what it can do now...

anyone had time to try it out (demo or registered) ?

I would love to know if it works outside of test machines...

    Thanks for any feedback...

Just tried it and its great! Thanks a lot! I think I found a bug, when the lua script is created and opened in the timeline you get your sequence duplicated twice. So you have to go in the timeline and remove this second set of images. One thing I was wondering about is if it would be possible that the trim tool created also a XML or EDL for importing in Apple color at the same time as creating the lua script. This would be a great workflow for doing color grading. A trimmed R3D sequence takes surprisingly little storage space especially when working on a larger project.

I will look into this duplicate timeline thing and fix it asap...

An EDL is timecode based and has no reference to file location so it could work back with the original EDL in FCP or Color as is I think... except if you have several segments of the same clip used (EDL would not be aware of each segment renamed with _S00x). Will see what I can do about this and report here when I have a new version... Will also look into roundtriping a trimmed R3D XML for Color when I work on the XML version of this script.

Thanks for the feedback Aras !
