  1. #1 Should I punch a camera guy?
    My 2nd DP says he will physically fight me if I choose my 1st DP's Zeiss still primes to shoot 4.5k on my new sensor over fancy 2k Digiprimes for an upcoming doc feature. What should I do? I don't want to shoot 2k but he says, "I would rather shoot in 2k on those digiprimes 1000 times over using matt's still primes in 4. I guarantee the image is better with those lenses at 2k than the other way." Plus hes geeked about the remote follow focus with the digi's. What should I do?

    He also says, "it is inifitely easier to go on stedicams with those things cause you can actually use the remote follow focus with it. and dont tell me the mount is in issue. that is a $50 or whatever fix. prob more like $500 cause its red, but still. i will physically fight you to use those lenses. they are incredible."

    Reasons to NOT use Zeiss Digiprimes on the RED One:

    * They are designed for 3-chip 2/3" cameras.

    * Require optical correction -- B4 to PL mount adapter is ~$3K because of the required optics.

    * Optical correction introduces a slight magnification effect.

    * You will have to shoot 2K at wide focal lengths, possibly pushing to 3K for longer focal lengths. Why would you want to do this?

    * You can't shoot 4K~ 4.5K with Digiprimes, they won't cover.

    * 2K has a measured resolution of around 800 lines. It' makes wonderfully beautiful 720p, and rather soft 1080p. Is that 'good enough' for this project when you could be shooting 4K or 4.5K???

    I can understand some apprehension over using Zeiss still primes (like the ZFs). If you have some that have the iris de-clicked and gears added, they can be a good solution. <They're actually quite awesome>

    Give him 5 minutes of your time and shoot an interior with both. If he hasn't seen the light then it's hopeless.

    hahah. if you don't want to shoot digiprimes, don't shoot digiprimes. DP doesn't run the show.
