Fabulous.
And even though one might not need 18 stops in most situations, applying max DR can be a beautiful point of departure for many post interpretations. It won't be the first time I've tailored a flat neg so that I might print it on a high contrast paper. It has a look and feel like no other combo. And this isn't a fix it or create it in post solution, it is, among other things, expanding pre-visualization territory. And that was tough terrain with only eight stops to work with.
Jim and Co. are continuing to pave a way through the desert.
RED team congrats on taking the lead on all counts once again.
+3 (or 6!) stops of Highlight protection means more freedom.
Epic will usher in a new era of filmmaking. Small units that are more focused on story telling than working around lighting limitations. Small battery powered light units, hidden in the shot like microphones, and practicals that that are even more practical!
Yes..reminded me of some of the WWII color aerial footage on tv docs.
will the max fps be limited when using HDRx mode?
will the camera generate more heat?
Since that likely also means twice the processing time - possibly more - will it still be possible to process these streams in real time, either at reduced resolution or via current Rocket cards? Or will this require a new Rocket design? This is an important question because a number of us are using systems like Baselight and Scratch that permit real time grading directly from the R3d files, and it is a significant advantage. We really wouldn't want to have to go back to transcoding prior to grading. These kind of photographic advancements are obviously terrific, but workflow is critical - don't want to take backwards steps there.
Jannard...Please tell us..will Scarlet have a HDR mode?
I am very happy to hear Red is working with the Foundry! Those guys produce incredible imaging software that will be a huge addition to the Red world.
