  1. #1 Problem creating ProRes files
I'm editing a short film (offline) with Final Cut Pro 7 on an Intel iMac (Snow Leopard). I'm editing with ProRess proxies (422), created in FCP with Log & Transfer.

Everything's been going quite right, but I've run in to a problem with transcoding 3 shots from the last couple of reels to ProRes files.

When the ProRes files have been created, at a certain point they become completely green. Also during the transcoding of 2 of these files, FCP crashed and I got a message saying it was caused by the QT Red plugin. I've tried 3 times to transcode these files, and they became green at exactly the same timecode as before.

It's 3 shots in total, from 3 different reels, and they're all the first shot of each individual reel. (Every other shot from these reels are transcoded without a problem).

Also, when I opened Log & Transfer after I discovered it first, one time all the shots of one of those reels turned green (in the browser of Log & Tranfer). I quit FCP and restarted FCP and the clips where normal again in Log & Transfer. (This was the reel containing one of the shots that's been causing trouble).

When you watch the original r3d file in Log & Transfer, it sometimes is normal and sometimes it also becomes green (at a certain point, or completely).

I tried to transcode one of the 3 shots in Red Rushes, but it also gave an error and didn't even render. It went to 100% in a second and 'error' appeared in the progress field.

I've read somewhere that corrupt frames can be the cause of this. I hope that the shots can be used somehow.

Some one familiar with this kind of problem?

What sensor was this shot with? Are all your plugins and RED software up to date? I would suggest trying RedcineX over red rushes because, if it is MX sensor footage that won't work with red rushes.

    probably dropped frames?
red is not a color, it's a camera.

    Use RED RUSHES...
transcode to 422HQ PRO RES.. Half res standard, do not resize..
    Color space - Camera RGB
    Gamma space - RED LOG

You will end up with some really flat 10bit 2k PRO RES log files to grade with in FCP.
Instead of getting prores files that have pre-baked in color, you get flat log files (PRO RES) to grade any which way you like... enjoy.
