Glad to hear about the nice progress on the auto-focus. Looking forward for a solid autofocus that you can have a little more faith in! Is the touchfocus ready yet?

Of course, he didn't say the "latest"...which means you don't have to do it next weekend while still keeping your word.

Does this count as the Mid May Scarlet update?

Is this not better than the update you had in mind?

Another question, is the autofocus on the fixed scarlet using motors inside the lens? I assume that that is the case but we have never really discussed the design of the fixed lens. I assume that zooming is manual correct?

the touch is part of it yes.. as well as face tracking.

These algorithms are pretty hardcore.. The same algorithms used on the EPIC to control autofocus on the RED FF35 lenses ( and canon and nikon electronic lenses ) have trickled down to Scarlet.

And yes the motors are in the lens, both autofocus, iris and zoom. That 8x lens all by itself is a technical achievement all by itself. And remember this is a cinema lens.. with custom actuators and lens group movements designed for both motion and still.

In my mind... at the end of the mid-May update there was a p.s. that would read: "Oh and by the way, Brad Webb is getting a free Scarlet for his birthday in June". So, not better than the update in my mind.... but close.
