That sounds like Sony and Canon and those kind of people's thinking. If RED can make Scarlet shoot 120fps at its price, then not letting it do that just to try and sell more EPIC cameras would only be gouging their customers, which thankfully RED don't tend to do.

(Although it could be argued that some of the accessories are a little pricey, especially relative to how incredibly affordable the cameras are)...

Thanks Cail. That seems like the kind of connector to prevent unwanted disconnects. Ideally though, the female part on the camera should allow the use of either locking or standard mini-plugs.

Does this mean that with the $4,750 base kit fixed Scarlet doesn't have timecode?

It almost certainly has timecode, it just can't jam sync. My educated guess.

IIRC, the $6k ex-1 doesn't have timecode, you have to upgrade to the ex-3 for that.

Exactly. So why would you pay $6000 for an inferior camera when you can get a scarlet for $1250 cheaper?

An example: The new canon XF305 (the tapeless version of my XH-A1) is $6999. The only upside to that camera is that it has XLR ports (in my sense of reasoning).

    HI-HO SCARLET, RELEASE PLEASE

Again, all cameras have timecode, usually run time and 24 hour clock. Even without the ability to jam synch, you can auto synch then slide it a few frames for the difference. INFINITELY faster than hunting around. As long as the clip has some sort of Time Code, I am happy, and even if it doesn't, my assistant editor is the only one who suffers ;-P

Beats the heck out of me. But hey, I don't understand why people are spending mucho $$ on custom PL mounts for DSLRs and sticking Panavision glass on them when, if you can afford Panny glass, you can afford the Red One. Personal bias, maybe? But I love it, cause it means the DSLRs will hold their resale value when the Scarlet's released. XD

I almost made a pic of one of those as my desktop for laughs! like a chevy nova with a Rocket Engine on the roof.
