James, you can't block something you want in your shot.

Just curious... have you tried a net in front or behind the lens with a flair?
If flairs are as important as the image quality id pick another lens.

When you are shooting 2K better use 16mm lenzen!Not sure if anyone has encountered these or not... Flare was from a 2k zip just out of frame
I think it's a telltale of some design choices... Any lens gurus want to weigh in on it ?

Imagine that you have a big hole, the back of your lens (5K ready) in front of a small sensor (in 2K).
Use a france flag (the stiff one of course, LOL)

I think Matt was putting it out there to see if anyone had any ideas as to
what in the lens design/optics would create that particular kind of flare.
He's quite familiar with French flags and/or grip flags for eliminating flare--that wasn't his question.
And yes, a 2K zip is a light (concave white interior with globes on the bottom--no lens, so it creates a bounced, softer light).

I think most of this is in the coating, possibly somewhat in the glass composition. I've shot quite a bit with the RPPs, as I own a full set with 18mm and 300mm, and haven't had any real issues. I don't think I have the rainbow flare like this in any of my footage. Although I have seen it. It's kinda unique, but I suppose it could be undesirable due to how intense it can be, based on these examples here.
Uh... It's in the first several shots and like constant throughout the whole video. I don't know if they actually did full sky replacement - unlikely with all the flares. But they did incorporate the jolly roger cloud formation and didn't mask the black sun spots in the middle of their blown-out hotspots. Sorry, it's just one of my biggest peeves with RED post. So many people who shoot or post with RED don't bother to fix this when it's so simple to do so. Maybe they wear it like a badge "shot on RED, see my black spots!". All my clients always want it fixed, it's like the first thing they see and some even freak out over it.

Oh, missed those. I was blinded by the hair. Once I regained my sight I noticed a few towards the end with the setting sun.. :)
I assumed it had something to do with the coatings. What I don't understand is why it shows on the 18mm and not the others..?
