Not sure if anyone has encountered these or not... Flare was from a 2k zip just out of frame
I think it's a telltale of some design choices... Any lens gurus want to weigh in on it ?

I noticed that on some test footage posted earlier, and I do a lot of back lighting so this one feature is a potential deal breaker for me.
This artifact is clearly not ordinary lens flare which is caused by internal reflection. This pattern of concentric rings resembles "Newton Rings" which are generally only visible under monochromatic light while testing an optical element against a test flat (or sphere) for correct flatness (or curvature).
If these are Newtonian rings, something in the lighting conditions is making them visible (meaning they are always "there" due to some flaw in the optical train). First place I would look is in the OLPF and IR cut filter pack. These are thin glass plates that could have become stressed during assembly, causing them to bend (at corners?).
Second possibility is moire. But I have never seen perfectly concentric moire without any "sawtooth" or buzziness. Software artifact ?
Should be a simple affair for RED factory to test your unit with and without OLPF. Trick will be exactly reproducing your lighting conditions.
My 2cents
there are flares like this on Heat during the last driving sequence
That looks like the type of spectrum you can see in the OLPF.
All the RPP do this...at least, from my experience. I love it.
I haven't heard of this happening with any of the other primes. Grabs or it didn't happen.
I remember pointing the 25mm and 35mm at the sun, playing around for a long time, trying really hard to get flares. Nothing like this. Not even close.
I did see this type of flare on the first samples posted here of the 18mm. Not sure where the thread is. The one with the old teddy bear and BMW 3-series.
Here, I found the video in my computer: 18mm FLARE 1, 18mm FLARE 2, 18mm FLARE 3
