You also need to take into account that the announcement was also scheduled before Jim went on unplanned for leave. The mid-May announcement was only going to be an update.

The Epic hasn't been released, and although on schedule, the Tattoo program is barely under way. The Scarlet was always going to be a couple of months behind Epic, as previously 'announced.'

I'm stage2 epic-x so don't care much, but what I think what virtually everyone wants is a realistic timetable.

I'm sure RED will share it with us when they know themselves.

As my physics prof used to say " The difficult we can do today, the impossible takes a little longer"

I am not picking on you, Michael, but a lot of people seem to keep implying that RED, by not providing a timetable, is holding out on us. Yet, RED seems pretty clear and consistent in saying that they are not providing that timetable because THEY DO NOT KNOW.

There's this incredible circularity that suggests they should tell us what they don't know... and if they can't do that, then they should just give us their best guess... but when they give us anything like a best guess, we rake them over the coals because their best guess turned out to be faulty.

Putting myself in their shoes, I really can't tell what it is that people expect them to do. When you don't know something because it is not (yet) knowable, how can you tell it to someone, even if you want to be helpful? Can't we just give them the benefit of the doubt and have it be conceivable that they don't yet know the details? This is the situation where torture (and this does seem torturous) yields nothing but poor information; information that people can't and shouldn't act upon.

I've watched RED's marketing strategies since the RED One was little more then engineering drawings and hope and in my opinion hyperbole and rumor are SOP in RED's marketing handbook. It's not as if they are being maliciously deceptive by knowing full well when they will have accurate information to announce, but rather that they know that buzz will travel further... and cheaper... then accurate timely information.

They could keep their tongue between their teeth and not say anything until they had something to say, but that is not in their best interests. By promising things that in all probability they KNOW that they cannot deliver they keep people hoping, guessing, and talking, and all of that works to their advantage.

When RED tells you that there is going to be an announcement sometime in the future simply reach for the salt shaker and pour liberally.

RED has done an outstanding job of setting a high bar in quality and engineering specs. They have stated their goals and then met or exceeded them. The one thing that they don't always meet (and have often painfully acknowledged) is meeting their OWN self imposed deadlines.
There are thousands of outstanding devices in the field right now with even more outstanding ones to come. They do get it done.
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

What can be inferred from the way things look right now is that none of us will be holding a Scarlet in our hands this year; you can bet on that. It's quite clear to me. Let's be realistic.

To be honest, it really does seem like that will be the reality. As much as I don't want it to pan out that way, as the updates come down the pipes it's becoming ever increasingly apparent that there is STILL a lot of work for RED to do regarding Scarlet.

Now please don't mistake my pesimisim for any unwilling support for what the RED team is doing. I just hear the things which we will be offered, and they seem like a TON of features, most of which haven't been used before, resulting in all R&D reliing strictly upon the engenieers shoulder; which in and of themselves are monstorous weights to bare.

Either way I'm here until it's released, and I've stop'd murdering myself over release dates, so really timeframes; for me at least, have been thrown out the window. Although I hope beyond hope, that the optpmistic bone in my body will be proven right, and I will be able to hold Alpha in my hands come this fall.
    Go BIG, or go HOME!
