If you have a hard time making $800 with a camera in 6 month's time, maybe you should think twice about putting $6K-$10K into getting a decent shooting setup and a workflow solution?

But that is not why a lot of us are wanting it sooner rather than later. I am filming *my* first short film I wrote and I'd like to shoot it on something nicer than what I can get right now. Since it's my cost and I am doing this for me, and not with the focus of profit, I can wait.

Just because someone has access to a Scarlet doesn't mean they will instantly make a lot of money. That said, I have no question that the quality *I* can deliver with the Scarlet WILL secure more work. No question. Because it offers more freedom in my shooting.

    Jeff,
I feel like you guys are god sent.

ok, What kind of projects are possible --(time to get greedy)-- can I make projects which can be telecast on TV, like a indie feature film with SFX.

I read in some review that the footage from tsi is not good enough for postproduction work (especially the Greenscreen because H.264 compression that limits the color spectrum ?) and I intend to do a lot of VFX, how true is that.

If required I will purchase the 5d or any other camera in that range if its good enough for a decent VFX.

    Please suggest.

Man I'd hate to have to deal with Greenscreen and VFX on 5D2 footage. :(

At that point, you'd be better off recording the uncompressed HD off the EX3 with a Kona3 or Ki-Pro.

Its not about the camera. Its about if you're limited by the camera.

It's not about technology or resolution it's about content, morals, characters, and story quality.

Yeah MkII sucks but you know I've had mine for over a year and has paid itself off along with accessories and a 7D (Not to mention great profit margins). NO COMPLAINTS FROM MY CLIENTS AS FAR A QUALITY GOES.

Lucas Films is down and they're the leaders in CG and writing Code for cinema. And they know their limits but they put up with it, again they can afford to but it's a note to be taken.

It all depends how badass you are or the people you know who can share a vision as one.

Also House episode is on the 17th. All on a MkII

Video is not like photography you don't get good over night, video requires more practice than you like and need a passion to drive you day in day out.

If I could have gotten a Scarlet in 2009 I would have gotten one, if I could have gotten one Early this month I would have gotten one. But 1080p is a damn good VHS if you ask me. Of course the current Canon DLSR line doesn't score a 100% but it's 2010 and we have this decade and some change to get a high res (8K) standard much like photography in the 2001 to now (4 MP-21MP).

Dude Marty approves of 1080p in high bit rates and good blu-ray scans hook it up. Even The Spirit, as lame as it is the digi looks awesome for panivision genesis. 1080p isn't the coolest but it gets the job done very compatible and becoming more common and pretty soon it will be everywhere. kinda like USB versus Firewire. Compatibility always wins over quality. sorry

Light peak sounds cool and all but USB 3.0 not too bad either.

Another concern with T2i that I read is you don't get true HD output in the HDMI while recording compared to 7D.

5D Mark II either. It isn't really necessary for accurate 1080p monitoring anyway. This isn't 4K or 5K ;-)

To me, there are other ventral aspects, further important. The more the shots come, the more I feel the small factor is the way, the upcoming future, to go.

    Today's news. From Cannes.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/16/mo...tml?ref=movies

«... the entire film was shot on what is essentially a still camera (the Canon 5D Mark II), while looking like a mega-million Hollywood production. (“Road” cost “under five million,” Mr. Gaydos said.)

“The great thing about this camera is you don’t need permits because no one knows you’re shooting,” said Mr. Hellman, who as a 10-year-old made his first photographic enlarger out of a soup can and a cigar box. “It has the capability of shooting high-def movies. On a little flash card. You can shoot 12 minutes at a time. Which is still more than you could shoot on 35 millimeter; a 35 millimeter reel is 10 minutes. It’s fantastic. And it looks like a still camera.” He said another film at Cannes was shot with the same kind of camera, “but they started shooting in December, and we started in July, so I guess we’re the first.”

Just to remind everyone that this is a forum about RED. General discussion is ok, but please don't let this thread go nasty or start comparisons between camera B (non-RED) and camera A (non-RED). There is http://dvxuser.com

Thanks and a happy weekend to all of you.
