For years, I was a high-end online editor at the shops in LA. I was working on some of the biggest shows on the major networks, getting good work... and I was pretty miserable. I had a young family, and more often than not, I'd have to call my wife on short notice and say, "won't be home until... much much later." Every once in awhile, that's fine. At least twice a week for more than a year... not so much.

One particularly bad night after a psycho producer on a big show had just kept most of the online staff of a big post house working until 3AM on something that really REALLY did not matter just because her ego needed its power fix, a switch flipped in my head. I realized that I was at the top of my game in the Online Editorial field... and it was never going to get any better than this.

Started looking for a gig with a manufacturer the next day, and have never looked back. I'm happier, my family is happier, and I still get to do creative stuff with cool people.

It really is a question of stepping back and deciding where you want to be. Those are not easy decisions...

Thank you for your email.
We are currently around 4 to 6 weeks away from the release of the Resolve for Mac software.
As such, we have not yet posted any final system specifications for Resolve for Mac as these are still subject to change.

Resolve for Mac will require an Intel 8 Core Mac Pro, and specific NVIDIA GPU cards (for the moment GTX285 or FX4800, subject to change),
as Resolve is a GPU based processing system.
Without the correct GPU configuration, the performance of the software will be severely limited.

Resolve for Mac can work with SD, HD, 2K and 4K video, however the real time
performance is mostly for HD work. There are no limits on the Mac system
when compared to the Linux system in terms of features or tools, apart from
stereo 3D support.

At this time, Resolve for Mac is offering around 10 to 12 nodes of
correction for HD in real time, while in 2K it is offering around 4 to 5
nodes.

There is native support for RED files, and you can use these in half,
quarter, eighth resolution proxies for real time performance while working,
which is especially useful when starting with 4K video.

This is still considerable performance when working with 2K uncompressed
video, and is comparable to the basic 1 GPU Linux system. The advantage of a
Linux based system is that you can scale the performance of the system as
you wish, while a Mac system is limited to 1 GPU.

External Matte Support
1.Resolve supports the ability to add unlimited external Mattes within a Clip. These external Mattes must be linked with the associated image within the Browse Page's Media Pool.
2.Resolve support 1D,2D,3D LUTs on Input/Output/Monitor from either Cinespace or Arri.

Thanks for that Lucas. Very similar story to my own. I started my career on set and, somehow, slipped up and found myself in post. DOH! Funny how a family can change your perspectives.
