I think 2 six-core (also 12 cores) is more realistic. Here

Let's not forget that best editing will be done realtime in many platforms and apps that open R3Ds natively. Best use of H.264 will be for wireless on set viewing and dailies if you don't own a RED Rocket™™ (you should BTW).

However... there will be plenty more surprises along the way.

we're about to order a red rocket, which i'm pumped about.

down the line there will obviously be a ProRes module.. will having the ProRes module negate the need to a red rocket for non-native workflows? Will this module record full debayered ProRes HQ on the fly? won't be a complete substitute for the red rocket, but might be a good alternative for some people.
