Hey everyone - I'm curious to know what the support is like for build 30 footage shot with the new MX sensor. Seeing that both redalert and redrushes are currently down for the count in that respect, is redcine-x the only option at the moment? From some of the other threads apparently clipfinder is also compatible.

What about red sdk compatible workflows like Baselight or others? Are they currently compatible with the tasty new MX footage without getting that sickly yellow glow?

To be honest I think it is a bit messy at the moment as far as software goes for the MX sensor.

All RED software is in beta, RSX is being replaced by RMD but the two can't be translated into each other, the new new color science is not supported by redline and thus not by Clipfinder and RedRushes. RocketCine-X does things that RedCine-X not do and the other way around and then there's the various builds of RedCine-X that might or might not work for you. Apple Color works with MX footage but has no controls for FLUT™.

It takes some effort to be on the bleeding edge.

M-X and Build 30 are supported by Baselight, Scratch, Pablo and a bunch of other systems and apps. "Social Network" and "Knockout" were both shot with M-X and in post now. No issues.

The SDK has been released and more companies are supporting the program every day.

    Jim,

One thing some people like myself are looking for is a simple solution to render dallies shot on the new builds with a simple program like Clipfinder.

All of the software you mention are high end finsihing tools that support the new Color science but programs like Clipfinder and Redrushes which are excellent programs for quickly sorting through and rendering daillies do not yet support the new color science throught the SDK.

RC-X and Rocketcine are fantastic when there is a Redrocket card installed and Clipfinder even has a send to RC-X command to render the New Color Science, but it does not render quite as quickly with RC-X, if you do not have a redrocket card (but it is getting better with every build).

    I very often use:

CLIPFINDER > Onelight and render dallies
    FCP > EDIT xport xml's
CLIPFINDER > Conform XML's from FCP back to r3d
APPLE COLOR > finsih with new NCS

The only part of this that does not support the new NCS is the initial dallies render in Clipfinder because the NCS is not supported in REDLINE.

I know how hard the team is working on all of the software but if the NCS was REDLINE enabled in the SDK it would be a great solution to be able to maintain exisitng workflows (until a Redrocket arrives).

I'm not sure how many people are using this workflow but I have found it to be very efficient and have been using this method long since before the RedRocket was availalble.

Nothing is really broken at all, everyting is backwards compatible, but if REDLINE could render the NCS that would be awesome.

David, how do you get clipfinder to render your dailies using REDLINE?

Clipfinder uses REDLINE from the Render dialog box within the clipfinder app.

The SDK is available to all developers and we expect some interesting announcements next week. Hold your concerns until then.

    Thanks.

And the short answer to the first post and the name of the thread is NO. The RED M-X does not break traditional workflows at all. If anything people are ramping up their support for RED.
