Quite new to Avid / Red. More of an avid question really, but it'd be great if anyone can help.

I've transcoded all my rushes (which have reference sound). Now I want to replace that with the sound from the mixer's recorder.

When I try to autosync, Media Composer doesn't produce a subclip, but a group clip with none of my logging data.

My question is, is there a way to remove the sound from the original master clip, as I gather this is the only way to get Autosync to work correctly?

    Ah. Got it.

    Unlink, then modify.

Does anyone have a faster solution, or one that can be applied to multiple clips?

It can be done on multiple clips at once... a better solution for this will be coming soon...

a little teaser for everyone. :)

The original issue is that AutoSync works when audio tracks are unique on both clips - meaning there cannot be an A1 track on both clips - when that is encountered, a group clip is the result since it keeps both tracks as part of the result. One can do the unlink/modify route or subclip just the tracks needed as part of the new clip first. But as I hinted at, this process will get a nice enhancement soon.

    Hi Michael,

With the enhancement, will you be able to take 3 cameras each recording a single audio channel onboard and combine them with an 8 channel broadcast wave file from a Sound Devices 788T? All cameras and mixer are synced with time of day timecode.

Right now we are creating an avid timeline with timecode that matches the time of day timecode from the cameras, and match all the audio and video by hand. We have instructed the camera men to roll long takes, and the sound man just rolls all day long, so syncing is not that bad, but it could be a lot better.

    Terry -

Is the result you want not a group clip rather than a sync clip? Or are you looking for three individual clips that contain the orginal scratch and the BWF tracks.

    Chris;

I can't expand on "soon" at this time... but I will be able to... soon.

    Hi Chris,

Actually all you have to do is select all the clips in the bin that you want to unlink, then hold command-shift, right click and select unlink.

Then select them all again, right click and select modify, then turn off the audio tracks you don't want.

Then relink the clips and hey presto, no sound!

Then you can Autosync with sound clips as you like.

Hope this is useful to someone.
