Yes, you need an external box (like the Aja GEN-10) tri-sync generator. Use the 25fps settings. This way, you will be able to genlock two Red's at 25,50,75,100 fps.

    Please, correct my written english.
I'm still learning, and I need your help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Awesome :)

So I'll set my sync generator at 25fps, my project at 25fps and then use varispeed with 50fps...?

So same should be also possible using 24fps with 48fps as varispeed, etc..?

Well unfortunately strictly technically speaking No.

I have done extensive genlock tests some months ago in preparation of shooting a 3D feature. The results were surprising. I drove down to RED and shared them with Stuart English. He consequently made some changes on the new build because of that and have have done further tests.

I'm in New York on a 3D shoot but as soon as I get a chance I will post a thread about Red one genlock in regards to 3D applications.

The good news is that in most situations your eyes/brain will not perceive the issue. So the asnwer is really....yes and no.

That's kind of what I thought originally...

Is it a phase issue? Please do post more, since I really don't have the time to test sync extensively on this shoot (it's a teaser shoot, one day of prep with the gear).

On the same note, is it possible to sync the timelapse mode? I don't even know why I'm asking, 'cause I'm pretty sure it is not.

Yes, it's a phase issue. If you see the relase notes on the latest build you will see that they changes the phase adjustment from 5 degree increments to 1 degree increments per my meeting with Stuart. It's important to not it affects all frame rates.

Unfortunately that was not enough to adress it. I see if I can post it soon.

Do you think the issue will be magnified by using a beamsplitter rig with such orientation, that the B-camera is flipped vertically? We are using the Swissrig, so the images will be flipped only horizontally... I guess we'll shoot everything in base speed and do some extra shots with slowmotion just for testing :)

As always its best to do your own test; there may be something in your beam splitter configuration that means you want to fine tune shutter phase of one of the cameras.

Also note the latest Build 30 have monitor path flip to correct for the camera / mirror inversion.
