I think that many RED owners are also interested in the details of this announcement.
LIKE:
1. How it will affect EPIC upgrade?
2. What exactly is the UPGRADE option?
There is no context to the announcement.

Hmmm, we've been thinking about upgrading whilst waiting for the new cameras. Presumably the upgrade cost is lost if you ultimately go for the trade-in? Guess it all depends on when the EPICs are likely to ship.
Maybe they will at least allow credit on a sliding scale... i.e., upgrade your RED 1 when it becomes available, then each month between that time and the time you become Epic Eligible the depreciation takes place. If you do not exercise the Epic Option, then depreciation is 100%. They've said they are getting very good at the logistics in re camera owners and should be able to keep up with this fairly easily.
The vagueness has always been there and I think it is what allows them to make decisions at the last minute. Hopefully it will allow them to address this upgrade issue in a way that achieves a good balance between customer wants and company needs.
Kid's in the back seat " Are we there yet? "
Jim in the drivers seat " We'll get there when we get there! "
that's why god made Gatorade bottles with larger top!

Obviously, a timeline is a pretty important part of this equation. When does the upgrade program begin? When is Epic-X shipping? When is Scarlet S35 shipping? These are the relevant variables as far as I can tell.
But, oh, man, I am excited by M-X!
