You left out the part about a bent pin which is putting the equipment in a warranty voiding condition. Quite standard practice. Having worked in product design, I can tell you a bent pin is not something you can always protect against. That's like saying you have to protect against arbitrary shorting across any line even ones that should never see power. That's not practical.
Perhaps Sony are frightened of me, I did fromally reject a 550 camera system about 15 years ago, the camera got sent to the UK & then Japan for evaluation, on return it was still hopefully inadequate, after 5 months of discussions Sony refunded the entire order. Apparantly I was the only person in the world that was not blown away by that camera.

Are you saying you don't know if such free repair is actually Sony company policy or general practice after all?

    Interesting.

You are an amazing man Stephen Williams... The only person in the world! And what does 'hopefully inadequate' means?

    Hi,

I can be a major pain in the ass if I want, it's very rare that I have to! I never except second rate equipment that does not live up to it's claims. If your a yes man, you get what you deserve.

    Best,

    Hi Carmel,

I was the only person to complain so they said,I've heard that before!, the camera was supposed to be a replacement for 35mm film and better than the DVW 700. Back to back the DVW 700 kicked it into the ground. Some people want the best, some are visually illiterate, just because a Sony rep says 'its not so bad' does not mean I have to accept $100,000 of kit. Sony claimed it was the lens LOL, a garage who changed a wheel bearing on my car said it was the tyres making the noise, they just fitted a bad part and eventually redid the repair.

Ended up with a DVW 700, that camera is still in daily use by the facility that bought it, still got the original drum heads, myself being a non smoker probably has a lot to do with that.

When I bump into that Sony rep at IBC, he is never that pleased to see me, no doubt the commision he lost was conciderable.

Sorry, I do not discuss specific customer situations publicly. That is between RED and RED's customer on a one-on-one basis.
