We are selling our personal Airstar 1.3K Tungsten balloon light kit. Used very lightly. These are nearly impossible to buy straight from Airstar as you may all know or any distributors. They are also impossible to find used. I can guarantee that. They hardly ever come up on the used market.

You can float it 20' and get around a T4 from that height at ASA400 180deg shutter 24fps. Incredible tool to have and extremely soft omni light. It's about 5' in diameter and it comes in a grey pelican case.

We are looking to sell for $4500 US. Firm. We really hate to sell as we know how hard it is to find one and how useful this light is but we are in need of the funds at the moment. It can rent at $400-500/day + balloon op $250/day + helium $120/tank.

If anyone is interested, please email me at nli@q-films.com. This won't last long so it's first come first serve.

    Thanks,

    Norm

The AirStar lights are amongst my favorite and best lighting solution I ever used, it brings a very large, strong, yet very soft wide spread of light down to your subjects and entire area of interest, the higher you bring them the softer and wider the spread, any one that gets this will be extremely happy, good luck with the sale Norm.

I'm sure it's a great light, but it should be noted that the further a light source is away from the subject, the harder the source becomes. Even a "hard" light like an Arri fresnel can be soft as a baby's bottom if you're mere inches from the surface (and don't melt under the extraordinary heat!).

We use Iwasaki 150W CMH bulbs in these 2800, 3200 5500k, usually 4 and switch them to control output, they work fine. Much less heat.

Wow! sounds great! Is it possible to have some specs, like how is it powered? What's the size of the packages once folded? Flight cases maybe?... Thanks!

Uses two 650w halogen bulbs. Same ones you use in 650W Fresnel lights (2-pronged).
They face away from each other on the harness. Has the standard auto trip mechansim so that the light will switch off if the balloon doesn't have the amount of helium or air needed. Once tight enough, light turns on. Spring loaded tension in either side of harness.

The beauty is that it is powered through AC so you can actually use this on any house power without needing to rent a genny or anything. It's quick and easy to setup and once setup, so easy and light to change positions of the light, as needed

It folds into a tiny compact sized briefcase. That is light and can be checked in as carryon luggage. It's smaller than your typical business briefcase. An ease to transport.

The interest for this has been overwhelming so far. As I tell everyone who has PM or emailed me, first come first serve on this light kit, which is near impossible to find used, or even new (Airstar's strict policy on sales).
