Red Team... this is all music to my ears. Great announcement today. REDMote Pro and REDRay pro look amazing.

Putting out a 3K RAW 120fps camera for under $5K is ridiculous. I hope people keep a clear perspective on just how awesome that is.

Hoping the Red Centre podcast comes out soon so I can get up to speed with all of this.

So I was looking at the 8x fixed and curious to know what modules you would have to purchase to get the same "kit" as the fixed. I love the idea of the inexpensively price Scarlett but wouldn't want to be tied down by one lens. Although the glass on the fixed is probably amazing. What would need to be purchased to have the equivelant of the kit that the fixed comes with? I'm assuming the brain, LCD, and battery? How much more would it cost to go this route v.s. the fixed route?

ironically... that statement is incredibly true... even though some people have a very hard time to understand it :)

basically getting the lens for free on the fixed scarlet compared to the interchangeable... or getting all the modules for free... whichever way you want to look at it.

5 2/3" prime lenses for under 5K.... that made my day.

Red has done it again. I want to put my deposit down on a Scarlet...yesterday!

Otherwise you'd be getting a free lens - which, not to kiss-ass too much, but at this price you are basically are getting that 8x lens for free.

I blogged about this a year ago and even stated back then that Jim had kept his promise of 3k for $3k. I still believe that he is keeping it now...

There might have been speculation and hopes that you'd get a complete package for $3k, and maybe in some minds that turned into what they announced. But I don't remember them every promising that. With a pro camera like this once you add storage, accessories, lenses, etc. it will be more than the base price.

Think of it this way.. The 2/3 interchangeable is $2750. Add the 2.8 LCD ($800), REDmote ($550), Side CF Module ($500) - you're already up to 4600 and you haven't added the battery, charger, or a lens. You're getting the lens for free.

That's why my big decision is whether to get the fixed or interchangeable. Right now I'm leaning towards the 8x fixed because it's a great value.

I'm right there with you, for some reason I prefer interchangeable lens. It would be cool if there was a starter bundle for those of us who would want an interchangeable as opposed to fixed. But yes, if that's not the case fixed is looking more promising. Either way I'm stoked!

I like the exclamation point rather than the question mark; sounds like you've done some AC work in your day (or DP, etc), hence the passion. Best-

Shoulda made it a heat-sink for the sensor and killed two pigeons with one soda bottle.

Haha... just kidding on that last part. But what I mean by all this is: maybe I would rather have a bigger sensor and just the basic technology for the same price as the smaller sensor with more features...
    GPS receivers aren't terribly expensive.

    SD card +Wifi + GPS for $129.

If I'm spending $20k on a camera I might as well go the last 10c and get a lot of additional functionality.
