Cool. Maybe other highend Autodesk products will eventually be released on the Mac also.

Yeah. I can imagine that if this product does well, the other ones should follow soon.
Bad side to this is that soon everyone is going to have a cracked version of it at home, but that too, has a positive side, getting the tool SOooooo out there can only mean more users learning it, and widening the talent pool for facilities like ours that depend on it day in day out.

Very well coud be. But we have a saying locally that addresses this perfect.

It is not the arrow, but the indian who shoots it.

We have been doing this for decades, and very time some new tool/camera/workflow comes out someone is always quick to point out the negative effect blah blah blah.

    And we are here still.

    Bring on the garages!!!

What are Smoke's strengths over other products?

Great to see them developing things for Mac. Flame next? Inferno?

Maybe Lustre will follow... Does anyone know if Lustre is GPU based like Scratch? If thats the case, maybe Nvidia/Mac will get the drivers for there SDI card to help Lustre get on a Mac (and Scratch too:)

I was told last week by an Autodesk rep that there was some HUSH HUSH industry breaking news going to surface.

I would have to say that I am throughly unimpressed. Its gonna be 17k for a HD editor with some finishing capabilities. Yeah FCP can't do any luts aside from GlueTools and FCP sucks for any DPX workflow, but Smoke on mac??

Won't have full GPU support because NVIDIA for mac is laughably slow and under utilized. There are no high end Quadro FX 5800 support. I bet it won't have all the features as the Linux version.

And the reason why its gonna be on Mac and not PC? Because a guy would be able to setup a system almost as fast as the Linux version for a 80k less.

Autodesk is really playing it safe releasing a Mac only version of Smoke.. really safe..

A fully decked out FCP station runs north of 20K, so it aint exactly cheap either (and support SUCKS), Smoke is soo much more than just FCP+LUTS+DPX.

If you don't have the need or see the added value it offers, then maybe it isn't the right tool for your workflow/market.

    Horses for courses....
