  1. #1 Converting RED material to DV
    Hi!

I'm looking for a way to convert RED material on site to DV for the post production. It's important for me that it is some kind of batch method since I will be occupied with other stuff. RED rushes seemed like the perfect program, but I can't find DV as a quicktime codec in the output section. Does anybody know an easy way to batch convert to DV?

    Cheers,
    Philip

I haven't tried it, but maybe Clipfinder can?

DV Codec is not direct supported by the RED Apps. Open REDAlert for example and go to the render window and see which codecs supported. If you want to go to DV Codec you must do a second encoding.....

I think that you can use MPEG Streamclip which is a free programme which does very high quality transcodes. You can open the proxy files in MPEG Streamclip and and transcode to a whole range of codecs - I think that DV is one of them but you will have to check.

On PC side it is worth to watch VirtualDub and Avisynth solution.
Wasn't clear what platform(s) you use.

Not sure but is the DV timecode actually useable to relink to the original R3D files if Philip is hoping to edit offline on DV and then conform to the R3Ds? I'm pretty sure most MiniDV SD footage way back when didn't have timecode you could access for conform purposes.
