I know the subject of good support has been beaten to death, but I tried a search and didn't turn anything up here regard the Varizoom Carbon Fiber offering:

    http://www.varizoom.com/products/tripods/vz-tc100c.html

100mm bowl (I know, 150 is the way to go) Mid spreader...

My budget is rapidly spiriling downward and still need support. I can rent, but nice to have something "on hand" to learn with and shoot personal projects, then rent a 2060...

I am wearing flame proof clothing, so fire away.....

Check out Cartoni's new Spinhead. Great design and robust for mid-weight cameras.

Scott...I saw Varizoom's carbon sticks at NAB the year before last...and was quite impressed ... build for the dollar. For about a third of what others sell for, if you can deal with the 100mm ball, it looked very good to me. I have a set of Sachtler 150mm carbon sticks but if I were in the market for 100mm , I would probably buy Varizoom's. That said, I love the Sachtler carbon sticks. (don't like their heads though...I have O'Connor 1030's (2).

The Spin Head sure looks interesting! But $$$$$.$$ as well. Plus I am not sure how one would use it:) With the pivots so different from traditional head, I assume the pans/tilts would look different than traditional heads?

Idea on cost? I tried Googling it, and lots of press releases, NAB mentions but nothing noting price

It is cheaper than a 2060. I want to say around $5-6k. Advantage is you have a great underslung head for jib or dolly work (dolly would obviously benefit from an offset/bangy arm)

Out of budget at the moment, but brings up the question.....

I see that the piece of kit to have is the O'Connor 2060 or better. What would this head be like when you are renting out your kit? Or would it be a secondary along with or as an alternative to the O'Connor? As you said, looks like a great tool in conjunction with a kb or dolly.
