  1. #1 Uncoated Lenses
Has anyone heard much about this? My local rental house says there's been some article printed somewhere (this could be UK only, I don't know) that's sudenly pushed loads of DP's into demanded old uncoated lenses.

I have a set of Cooke Speed Panchro's converted by Panavision that are uncoated so hopefully it should mean a greater demand for them.

Anyone else heard anything about this?

vantage film (hawks) made so many improvements in optical quality they build a special set of lenses (or filters) to get a kind of vintage look ;-)

I know of a couple of rental houses in the UK with uncoated lenses. Mainly Zeiss Superspeeds that have had the lens coating taken off, making them easy to flare.

Have your Panchros had their coatings stripped off?

Unless they have been stripped the Panchros have an older and 'less sophisticated" coating and therefore more prevalent to flares and internal reflections.

There are a few lenses over at Panavision that I recall had coatings removed for a certain look.

The new Cooke iPanchros have interchangeable uncoated front and back elements.

I will be testing the uncoated fronts on my set very soon. Will post up my findings here.

You can't do it yourself you need a lens technician to do that.
There was a whole discussion about AR and the way to do that on the CML few months ago. It included some bizarre and ridiculous technique of boiling the elements...
