Hey Craig, the 4096x2304 clips look like they are coming in fine -- loading into viewer at a percentage of around 46%, making them full frame iand they match the low rez clips once I resize... it appears to be working... but i hear what you are saying about the 4000 max on fcp. Interesting... I wonder if I am doing something wrong? But all appears to be fine. I'm going to proceed and if i run into problems your suggestion is a great way to go. Thanks again.

    Rich,

You can use Redcine. You can load your material into RC, adjust project settings according your needs and choose "Fit Height" or "Fit Width". You can also re-frame your shots if you like.
    I hope this helps.

Also, FCP isn't the best for resizing. Better off in RedCine... I still think the way I suggested earlier will give you better results.

The reason to do it in RC and not Red Rushes is that in Red Cine you can see exactly where you are zooming/cropping. Not a mathematical puzzle like RR!:head_explode:

you could export a selects reel of the Pan and Scanned footage, pull the footage into RedRushes and crank out 4K DPX, bring that into Shake, do you pan and scan there then export 1080p ProRes of your selects and reconnect them into your conformed project in FCP.

thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm going to give it a go. On another tip, I have to export a Tiff sequence for my effects guy and he is asking for me to scale down the 4k to 2k and make the sequence 32bit - then when I finish in 1080 there will still be some wiggle room. I brought the shot into red cine and see where I can convert the bit size under the output menu, but why won't it let me change the size from 4k to 2k? I can only adjust size if I am going to quicktime it seems. Any thoughts?

    thanks
