so Joel, how did you solve it.

I have not solved it. I've tried 3 times. Each time I removed version 1.3, then installed 1.7. "Programs and Features" in Control Panel shows that 1.7 has successfully installed. But when I launch Premiere Pro CS4 4.1, the RED R3D Presets folder does not appear or exist. And of course Premiere no longer recognizes R3D footage.

I then remove version 1.7 and re-install 1.3 and the RED presets are available and all is well.

Anyone at RED Support or any users? I would really appreciate a solution from anyone who has solved the install bug.

    Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem. Premiere didnt show any of the RED presets so i thought it was redcode importer not being installed properly.

    What I did:

    - Uninstalled previous redcode importer version.
    - Restarted.
    - Updated every single program in CS4 (all updates).
    - Restarted.
    - Installed Redcode importer 1.7.
    - Then I opened premiere cs4 4.1 and it worked, the presets were there.

Just check you have premiere CS4 4.1 and NOT 4.01!!! I found this to be a problem for some people. Just update everything to be sure.

Thanks for the suggestion, J.A. I did everything as you suggested and still no R3D folder in presets when I opened CS4. And yes, I have updated to 4.1, not the 4.0.1 version.

I'll try completely removing cs4, reinstalling everything, updating everything and see if that works. Oddly enough, if I load the 1.3 version of REDCODE Importer, I at least get the R3D folder. But other things are buggy now. Probably because 1.3 doesn't exactly work within the updated Adobe 4.1 environment.

    Any other suggestions? Anyone?

    I've got another problem.

    If i start a new sequenz. I get asked for 1k, 2k, 3k, 4k.
With the old REDplugin I could choose 1k, 2:1, 25fps
import the 4k RED files... but did the edit in 1k (referenz files)
(i could set the zoom to 100% and eveything looks fine)

With the RED plugin 1.7 it seems that I have to use 4K.
If i choose 1K in "new sequenze" and import a 4K red file
i only see a part (image section) of the video image.
(my english is not that good. i hope you understand what i mean)

With the new plugin it seems that the new sequenze have to be 4K...
and the only way to edit it on slower pc's is to reduce the resolution
(quarter resolution) and set the to 25% instead of 100%

wthat I want is zoom to 100% and 1K referenz files..
    (with half or quarter resolution)
(with the old plugin = no problem. with the new plugin... i don't get it)

    any tips?

    I'm using WinXP, 4 x 3,0 Ghz, 4gigs ram, Premiere 4.1

    EDIT:
with the old plugin I could edit 4K (in a 1K Sequenze) at 100% zoom in realtime (GREEN Timeline bar)
with the new plugin it doesn't fit in a 1K Sequenze and the only perfomance setting is to reduce the resolution but even if I
set it on "sixthenth" my timeline bar is red. So what should i do? I hope that I'm only a "click" away to fix that problem.

Have u tried to select the shots on the timeline, right click on them and select "Scale to frame size" ?

I tried it. But the result sucks. Timeline bar is still red but I can
playback the video smooth in quarter resolution or half resolution
but got ugly blocks in the video:

okay... this is really strange (not really)

If i set up a "1K Sequenze" an import a 4K file and press the "scale to frame
size" I can go to "Full Resolution" and the playback will be smoth. Even the
    timelinebar is red.

And if i open a second "4K Sequenze" and copy and paste my 1k Timeline in it...
my timeline bar will get "yellow" but my playback is not smooth anymore. Of
    course not. 4K, full resolution.

So... the "scale to frame" size is good for me. got a red timeline bar... but thats
all. I can set the resolution to Full or half (collor correction) and it looks good.
And the playback is smoth. And I can also copy and paste the whole timeline
into a 4K or 2K Sequenze... for final export. So thanks.

Thanks A lot! I use FCP to AE for compositing. Since AE doesn't have a waveform, histogram or anything (except in Color Finesse), Ive been using Test Gear for a while now, I just think those that dont own any plug-ins like this should at least have a reference.

Scale to frame size works here... but do we have to do that for every shot we cut into a timeline as we edit? That's not a good edit workflow.

For those of you having problems with RED presets not showing up after installing RED 1.7 with Premiere 4.1, please try the following:

    1) Shut down Premiere.

    2) Delete your prefs.

On Mac, delete these three prefs:

    Root/user/library/preferences/
    com.adobe.AdobePremierePro.plist
    com.Adobe.Premiere Pro.4.0.plist
    com.Adobe.Premiere Pro.4.0.plist

    On Vista64 delete this pref:
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\4.0
    Adobe Premiere Pro Prefs

    3) Restart Premiere.
