    Hi !

Would it be possible to make setup files on the cam and store them on a memory stick or on the red drive/red ram ?

    regards

I think the plan is to use the SD card slot for exactly that, though don't quote me. Dig through the forums for SD card and I'm sure you'll find the relevant info somewhere. HTH

I was told at N.A.B. that you would use a laptop with RedCine to paint your picture and that information becomes part of the metadata that is stored along with the picture and sound on the Red Drive or wherever else it might be stored. The monitor outputs would display your customized image. The raw data is still sent to the drive and you have the option in post to use your custom settings or go back to the raw data and start from scratch. I’m used to painting my F900 on set but this is kind of like having my cake and eating it too. I'm not sure if those settings are stored in the laptop with RedCine or on the SD card or both. Hope that helps.

So this means you would use Redcine the way people use 3CP or Iridas Speedgrade currently? Champe, did they tell you any specifics on the communication between camera and pc? I.e., is it still-frame export from cam to software through USB, or live-stream of HDMI/HD-SDI or such?

    Hi Istfan,

It is my understanding that the laptop running RedCine would communicate with the camera via USB in the same way that a remote control unit or “paintbox” works with a Sony F900. These are only digital commands sent to the camera to change settings. The changes would be seen on a monitor connected to the camera. No one suggested that the actual image could be seen on the laptop. It might be nice to see an image there but I certainly wouldn’t want to do any serious color grading on a laptop screen.

    Hi,
no, noone in their right mind would use a laptop only for colorgrading. Thanks alot for the clarifications!

But what about the laptop functioning like DVRack and a complete remote control?
With a histogram and maybe even the EVF screens it wouod be a heck of a remote for jib work, etc.

Yes to saving a Camera Config file. And also yes to saving or reading a Video Look file. Either or both can be saved to / read from an SD Card.
