Currently only the 300mm RPP will cover the full ff35 sensor.

    Martin,

This is correct based on what I've read. You are shooting the same physical sensor area but because the photosites on the Mysterium Monstro are larger than the Mysterium-X, you get fewer pixels in that area. However, it's likely that with less noise and better dynamic range characteristics from Monstro, this will be a common trade off. I doubt most video productions are going need more than 4K; You are likely to happily shoot movies with your cinema primes at 4.5K on an FF35, getting the same optical properties you are used to and then switch to full frame still lenses when you want to do stills work with the same camera body. Or if you do have full frame lenses suitable for cinema style shooting, which I imagine Red will eventually provide, you can shoot 5K or 6K video. Depending on the production and which lenses you want/ are available you have lots of options. So if you are worried about your cinema style lenses with the 32mm image circle being made obsolete by the FF35 you are getting a bit ahead of yourself, horses for courses as they say, the super 35 gate size is likely to remain a standard for moving images for some time to come. Likewise 4.5K is plenty of resolution for a beautiful and extremely sharp movie.

I believe the Big Man said the other day that both 300mms are optically identical.

    Cheers,

Correct... The new and old 300mm are optically equivalent.

    Jim/Jarred,

I'm looking forward to purchasing a set of primes for my Red One (3306) but I'm curious- will you be requiring payment in full to secure the set, or will it be a small deposit and payment when the lenses ship?

I ask because I am arranging financing for a number of pieces of equipment, the primes and the 18-85 included. I'd be able to put down a 10-15% deposit this week coming, but not the full value.

Thanks for the information, and thanks for doing what you do. You guys have made my and my team's little filmmaker dreams come true! </sappiness>

Hey Jim, is there any chance of offering a 25-35-50-85 set for right now at a reduced price. I ask because I rather have a set with an 18mm lens rather than with a 100mm lens. If I need a longer mm, I might buy it in the future, but right now 90% of the stuff I shoot on the RED is with an 18mm lens. It's just slightly frustrating to have to buy one lens, when I rather hold onto the money and spend it on a much more needed one when you release it later.

    Just asking...:)

    Matthew
