    Shooting for HD 60i broadcast.

Shots at 23.97 (for remote locations using flash card recording) stutter when converted to 29.97.

Pans, tilts, and moving shots unusable.

Using Red Alert to transcode RD3 to pro res, then pulling up in FCP

I have also tried changing the frame rate in Red Cine, same results.

There must be a work around, since so many shoot at 24

    Advice please???

Try to edit in FCP with a 23.97 timeline. FCP will add a pulldown to get to 29.97 on export to tape over firewire. What tape format are you finishing HD60i on?

HDCAM SR to PBS specs. I will output via SDI to tape. (the only way possible in this format)

Most of the one hour show is shot in 29.97 (various formats), so that's the timeline. FCP adds a pull down when I render the 23.97 shots, but it looks awful on pans and tilts.

I see...Just a thought ...how is your FCP system set up to render the pulldown? I think its in the system prefs/ playback control for FCP. Is it 2,3,2,3 or some thing else. Also have you tried looking at the rendered shots through the workflo to an HD monitor at 60i? I have had trouble mixing framerates in the past. I try to not mix anymore.

    I was also thinking...are you working in Prorez 1920x1080 60i or 30p?

FCP doesn't add pulldown on render. You need to add it yourself, or play out a 23.98fps timeline to tape.

???? How is it that I can cut a 23.98 clip into a 29.97 sequence? All other tracks and elements are 29.97. When I cut a 23.97 clip in , it shows in preview mode, until I render. It sure looks like FCP is doing a pull down.

Just spoke to Dan, who suggested Cinema Tools offers pull down options to fix this.

Cinema Tools will remove pulldown, not add it. Compressor may add it, but I can never get that app to do anything I want it to. Maybe that's just me though. FCP just, AFAIK, dupes frames on a render of a different frame rate clip in the timeline. It can do 3:2 on playout though, on DV over firewire, or your HD-SDI card can add 3:2 in real time on playout, in both cases, from a 23.98fps timeline.

Yeah, FCP is notorious for that bug. What Graeme said is my understanding of the issue as well.

It's not a bug. It's an un-implemented feature. If you do need to add 3:2 as a render process, you can try: http://www.nattress.com/Products/sta...ilmConvert.htm
