  1. #1 Follow Focus from Cine City
    Hi,

Is there anyone who has any knowledge of the follow focus made by The Cine City? I'm all for Arri, but they are deadly expensive as we all know, this little bugger is only $700! that's almost 1/10 of the Arri.

    Anyone?

    Kind Regards
    Anders

Generaly its reasnobly well made an well finished, the 19mm bracket fits well but its a little tight on the bars. The lens gears work well and accessories are also good. The two hand knobs fit well and locate on to the FF unit itself well. The gear box 'arm' that interfaces with the lens is ABS not aluminium. I don't know what the actual gears are made of inside. The problem seems to be is that there is about 3mm of play somewhere in the gear train. For professional users this is a real problem. It may be OK if you can fix the play in the gear box. I couldnt find any ajustment for it. I believe the company say they are making some quality improvements to the unit.

PM me if you want to know more. I have a friend who has one who I think would sell for less than $700.

    Hi Anders,

it's good to have competition but the Arri FF4 does not cost 7K.

No, I know it doesn't cost 7K but last time a checked the FF5 was 47.000 SEK (€4230) and that was before the world economy breakdown. Now I'm afraid to even ask.

Hi, I had the CineCity one I just sold since I bought a Arri FF4 (couldn't afford it back then) and used it on a shoot. It is well made and working perfectly, just as previously mentionned, it's got a slight 'play' in the gears, a couple of mm when ajusting. As much as I wouldn't recommend it for rental or commercial shoots, it's pretty useful for personnal work and once you know it, it's accurate and practical enough to be better than focusing on the lens barrel anyway... And it's cheap enough to be a good investment until you can get an Arri...

The web site states that the whip and the speed crank work with other units. It looks like they would fit an Arri FF. Can anyone who has seen this unit confirm this? I'll stick with my recently purchased Arri FF but it would be nice not to spend 300.00 on a whip and 180.00 on a speed crank.

I bought one of their speed cranks on eBay - it's a standard accessory port connector, so it should work on practically anything; Arri, Chrosziel, Zacuto, RedRockMicro etc.

Thanks. If shipping isn't a killer, looks like a good way to go.
