  1. #1 Stolen equipment - beware in europe
european rental companies should take attention. There were several break-ins in the last time. Those guys have stolen cameras in Hamburg in our office, they were at Arri in Cologne and also at Cinecam in Paris. I think the total value of all stolen equipment is nearly 2 Mio EUR now. We know that these guys also have visited several rental houses in Germany - so please take care.

Are these the guys that stole all the lenses in France? They hit Panavision, got something like 6 sets of speeds, and six sets of standards, as well as a ton of other crap.

Yes these guys probably hit Panavision and Arri, they tried at Cinegate - but weren´t succesful. We saw them in our offices in Cologne and Hamburg.

Fucking bastards, they should be simply hanged as thieves deserve. Don't tell me they are stealing items worth millions just for food.

Just heard of someone in Denmark who lost 6 Master Primes and wireless and regular follow focus to some scammers with false identities who never returned the gear. Beware everyone. At least make sure you make copied of all identification papers and take photos of any renter you don't know and trust. It's sad it has to be this way.

They hit Swizerland as well. Rented equipment from three different rental houses and never returnded it. Some HD cameras and lenses, a full set of S4s and a Red camera.

I'm a small kiosk rental and postproduction service that had a lot of problems with renting my gear in Vienna, also around here in middle Europe and Balkans.

Now I stopped because there is no any serious security even if you go with it as a DIT.

My renting service is soon over after I upgrade web page.

There is a 'inbetween' solution to this Sanjin - just rent to people and businesses you know personally. I would never rent edit equipment to people I didn't know or have extensive references on. This is how hire used to work. Now with so much competition, people have forgotten or feel they can't afford to be sensible.
