What does RED have to do with Autism, Mercury & The Environment? Everything because as a Director of Photography/Avid RED user coming from commercial advertising world there is no other camera that I can think of that will properly tell the stories of families and activists battling this epidemic. Don't we all have a responsibility as artists to give back? Eight years in the making and finally funded with a low budget I am setting out to make a documentary that will change and inspire many lives. I must shoot this on RED and looking for anyone who will rent their camera package for a discounted price. The documentary will be 30 days of shooting imbedding myself and the camera in the lives of 5 families going against the status quo, Activists, Environmentalists and Scientists. The film will begin and end with Surfers Healing Autism although not the primary focus. This is going to rattle some cages and let people realize that genetics is the loaded gun and the environment is the trigger.

Would purchase the Scarlet package but release date is to late for production. Names are attached and this is going will be a kick ass film.

    Cheers,
    Pat

I don't yet own a RED either, so I can't help with the rental, but wishing you the best of luck with the film. The trailer is well done and looks like you have a great message.

I am so glad that you are making a film like this. Can't wait to see it. When do you think it will be ready to show and where? Best of Luck!

    Not more vaccine paranoia. :(

How about an environmental movie which is based on all of the empirical and well peer reviewed studies demonstrating the harm being caused to public health instead of focusing on a group of paranoid and ill informed parents whose beliefs run contrary to every epidemiological study on the subject.

Wasting time on hanging hanging a straw man doesn't help stop the real killers.

Gavin, I'm no expert on the subject, maybe you are and know a lot about the subject. However I find your comment rude, particularly towards those families living with children sufering from Autism, whatever the cause.

As to every epidemiological study on the subject, like I said, I'm no expert, but I've heard of many studies considered very reliable, used as references, which turned out to be wrong, to name a few of the subjects and organisations who mistakenly made decisions based on theses reports : tobacco, malaria, chemical weapons, UN, WHO, British Government, US Military Dept., etc.

Those people most affected by a problem often know more than the so called experts making reports on those subjects.

Innocent until proven guilty of course, but freedom of speech, please.

    Cheers,

yeah, so does seafood and a multitude of other things we eat...

The real problem with high-fructose corn syrup is that it's High-Fructose Corn Syrup. And not only that, but it's used in just about every mass-produced food and beverage these days, from bread to pasta sauce. There have been plenty of independent studies to show that this stuff is bad for people in moderate to large quantities and or regular doses. Linking it to diabetes, a sharp rise in diabetes since HFCS has proliferated the US food market, etc.. The stuff is just bad for you, but it seems that the USDA and the fact that corn is one of the USA's major agricultural products, makes the HFCS juggernaut a hard one to stop. I think this latest mercury deal is more just a little news bite to help draw more attention to HFCS, even though it's not of real concern on the whole. Problem is, most people don't pay attention to what goes into what they eat, nor do they care. There's also the misconception that many things we consume are OK because they are derived from a natural source... Of course, asbestos, arsenic and cyanide are all naturally derived substances too...

As for the link between vaccinations and autism. I think it's a real stretch based on all the information or studies (very limited) that I've seen. But I'm definitely interested. I have a six year old cousin that's autistic.

I don't consider Gavin's comment rude. Consider this (via Newsweek):

The warfare over vaccines and autism is heating up yet again. This week, Alison Singer, the executive vice president of communications and awareness at Autism Speaks, one of the nation's leading autism advocacy groups, announced her resignation, citing a difference of opinion over the organization's policy on vaccine research. "Dozens of credible scientific studies have exonerated vaccines as a cause of autism," she wrote in a statement. "I believe we must devote limited funding to more promising avenues of autism research."

...At some point, you have to say, "This question has been asked and answered and it's time to move on." We need to be able to say, "Yes, we are now satisfied that the earth is round."
I'm all for autism research, but I am not in favor of voodoo as a substitute for real research. If someone wants to make a documentary, that's their business. Best of luck to them. If they want to use a Red camera, that's good too. But, that doesn't mean I have to like or support the subject matter. I probably wouldn't comment about a film subject in this forum. That said, if someone announced that they were working on a project about how "Hitler was really a nice guy," I might be forced to add a little note.

The research on an autism/vaccine link is clear -- there is no link. If someone wants to continue humping a dead horse, well, that's their business.

Of course, that's just my opinion. It's perfectly OK for anyone to disagree with it.

    Hey Jay,

Agree we are all entitled to our own opinions and just for the record "A Walk On Water" is not just about vaccines. Its about the big picture called the environment. Rather than get in a heavy debate about vaccines and my journey through the world of autism for the last 9 years I will assure you if it matters the film is not intend to be one sided. However, you should not always believe what you hear in the press. The controversy is deep and I am in the thick of it. I do believe lead, thimerosal(ethyl mercury), aluminium, anti-freeze are all bad ingredients that we should not be injecting into our kids bodies. All know neurotoxins by the way. There are ways to make vaccines safer and non-toxic but that requires guilt and billions of dollars. Also there is the other side where kids have recovered. HOPE after all is the catalyst for change.

I apologize to the REDuser forum regarding these posts. I never intended this to be a discussion or debate about my doc. I am just a filmmaker who is making a difference and looking for support.

    Cheers,
    Pat
