Agreed that the price jump for the occasional 1000fps use wouldn't be justifiable for most of us.
When the tech cost comes down though, I wouldn't say no to a few hundred extra fps!

The image of a great white shark leaping out of the water to devour a seal, in super slo-mo, is permanently burned into my mind. (Planet Earth series)

Why not simply use the twixtor program on top of 100+fps to simulate 1000? It would be so slow that the aesthetics would be indistinguishable.

Now for scientific purposes, 1000 is golden. But these are not science cams for the LHC. When I heard the 120-180 quoted for the Scarlet, my jaw dropped.:usd:

180 fps on Epic would be amazing, and all I would ever need in normal "situations". Otherwise, it's a very specific application and that certainly would call for a rental to get the tool that is meant for that task.

The 13th seems to be just over the horizon now.

    Introducing the Phantom v12.1
    The world's first CMOS-based high-speed camera capable of taking 1,000,000 pictures-per-second

    Hahahaha 1 sec = 11.57 hours at 24fps playback...
    kind of long!

If you are disappointed, we will never satisfy you. If you are blown away, the future just begins.

Will the 1000 FPS advocates step to the left side please. For the majority of us the speeds mentioned by Jim Jannard and Jarred, 150FPS and 120 FPS, is more than enough. And if higher frame rates means adding more cost to the price, forget about it.

I really enjoy the Industria piece done for the Mexico Tourism Board (first piece on the COMMERCIALS page). Check 'em out and then tell me that there's little use for high speed.

as I said Mitch... commercials :)

There is definitely a place for the Phantom, and Abel is a the perfect place for it as it is a great RENTAL tool . Personally I just dont feel it is the right tool for dramatic people intending to shoot 24/30/60 content 95% of the time to actually PURCHASE as their main camera, mostly because of the price point, as well as some other technical issues.
