Afaik mac os is only 8 bit, so you can only get 8 bit without an AJA or similar - am I wrong?

That was about 20 years ago – if ever…

Now it's 32/64 bit and will soon be full 64!

I guess Charles is talking about the color processing. ATI should provide 10-bit.

You mean 3870. Thread title says 3780. Can a moderator fix that so this thread will show up if people search for titles containing 3870?

x.v. color is a marketing name for an expanded color gamut (similar to DCI) and 10 bit. Sony has a few camcorders and Bravias which support x.v.color.

    excellent!

    2 question:

why in my 42pz85u in control panel the setting x.v colo have 2 setting (off , auto?)...i mean if means wider color gamut and 10 bit should be always on?...

Also panasonic in the top of the line pz850 have also "Cinema Coloe"...they say is a wider gamut (120% HDTV...)...Do you think X.V color is wide to use the plasma as a good playback monitor (not the main color reference..but...)

    Thanks

The source and the display have to communicate about their x.v. color ability, so I suppose "automatic" stands for this. AFAIK, x.v.color is an industry standard, so I'm not sure if "Cinema Color" is the same.
If both source and display can handle it, the resulting image should come closer to cinematic colors than Rec709, but after all, it's still consumer equipment…
