It appears to be a 0.3 filter when on with a 11-14 stop range (unclear), then when you don't need it, you slide out the electronic ND tray.
The price point is very alluring and sounds like it's coming 2018 for PL Mount.
I sincerely hope they tie this into the RED SDK for internal camera control and they add a screen on the side of the wheel if possible to show the current strength of the ND if they don't get the SDK to read it out on screen like the Motion Mount.
This appears to be similar tech to Panavisions recent electronic ND, so we'll have to wait and see if there are any shutter speed considerations.
Whatever they do, make sure it covers generoursly over the RED 8K VV format size. They have it here with Monstro, but it appear the circular portion of the rear of the PL mount might be occluding the corners a bit, which will possible add to vignetting on some lenses. Hopefully they'll sort that out, I don't see a reason for it to be there or to be circular like that, likely a prototype thing.
