    I was wondering if anyone could break down the logic behind the 16 character .R3D file names for me. For example

    A011_C003_080213

    how does this increment in a shoot? Which parts are defined by the user and which parts by the system?

    Any advice (or a link to a thread I have missed) would be greatly appreciated

    The .RDC folder name (which you showed) is as follows:

    A = Camera ID
    011 = Roll ID (Each time you format/mount a drive, this increments-- in theory).
    C003 = Clip 3 (Third shot recorded on this roll/magazine)
    080213 = Date the clip was started (Feb. 18, 2008).

    This numbering scheme has changed slightly in B16.
    The actual R3D files in the folder are named with an additional _001 before the .R3D file. This is file number of the sequence of files that make up a single clip (each with a 2GB limit).

    Thanks for that kyle. How has it changed since build 16?

    In B16 Red added two random characters at the end of the naming scheme to eliminate the potential for duplicate file names.
