    Hey guys,

I have a shoot next week where one of the shots the camera will be mounted on an arm for a overhead table shot. Any suggestions on some simple ways to trigger recording? I know there's the wifi/app method.. but is that only for DSMC2?

    Cheers!

Two words: Fool Control. Best thing that ever happened to a RED. Certainly worked on my Epic X. Run, do not walk, to the Apple Store. Perfect for cameras mounted on an arm for overhead shots either in the studio or conflict zones.

Cheers for the reply Mark. Did you need any adaptors to make it work with your Epic-X? On the Fool-Control page it says:

To use an EPIC or SCARLET camera with foolcontrol on the same wifi network you will need to use one of these :

    - RED lemo to cat5 ethernet cable and a GIG-E wireless router.

    - RED REDLink bridge wifi module.

    - Teradek COLR and GIG-E to lemo cable.

    - RTMotion latitude

Hence the confusion of thinking it wouldnt work straight out of the box!

    Hello Caleb

Correct, on DSMC1 you need to add an accessory for wifi network so the app can control it. Teradek COLR, Latitude MDR receiver unless you can find an old HOTLink module or can adapt a REDLink bridge on the back of your camera...

If you can be wired, the ethernet option also works on DSMC1...

Worst case if it is just for 1 shot you can try to find a used REDMote...

Well straight from the horse's mouth. You know I completely forgot about the OffHollywood HOTLink that I had. Yes, it was necessary to make the connection, but it worked very well. Think I'd recommend it over the REDMote. That thing never worked.
