So...I’m using 2x S1H’s here at Sundance and have found one major flaw with this camera that I just can’t get over. When shooting in 5.9K @23.976fps we can see a 1080p downconvert image in our 7” monitors in standby. Soon as we hit the record button we lose the monitors, they go completely black. Talked to a Panasonic rep in their pro video department and unfortunately these cameras can’t down convert when recording in 6K and from what he told probably never will. UHD works but the image just is t as crisp. That basically makes these cameras absolutely worthless to me. I do think they put out a nice image but if my only monitoring option is the 3” built in monitor on the camera in 6K I don’t think I’ll ever consider it again for another gig.

Yea the 6k monitoring sucks. But when the camera is able to do 5.9k raw, to Ninja, it will be visible.

I wish the UHD looked as good as the 6K. I rented two of these S1H’s for this show I’m on and losing the external monitor on record is a big issue. One which I can’t honestly see myself getting past. I really wanted to like it but for that reason alone it can’t even act as a C-Cam IMO. Great image, love the FF sensor but one fatal flaw that will keep me from using it again unless they get that monitoring issue solved.

the 400mbps 4k 422 is the best it can put out. Yes there is a bit more resolution at 5.9, but the codec can be a bit mushy in grading. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a 4k camera that has a 6k gimmick. But that 4k is lovely.

    What's the point of 4:2:0 6K ?

    You are delivering 6K ?

The 6K looks sharper to us and overall had more accurate color representation than the UHD. Not finishing in 6K but we are utilizing the resolution at times and director wants to only shoot the 6K.

Well if director really really wants to only shoot in 6K on a $4500 hybrid camera, there's no point saying that recording resolution has zero relation to colour accuracy, 4:2:0 has lower chroma resoluton, and that 200Mb/s 6K is not in the same league as broadcast quality 4K 4:2:2 400Mb/s let alone 4K Prores you'd get with recorder.
