It seems eerily quiet on this board as of late, and cinegear kicks off in a day or so... Could there be a big announcement?

Red, to me, has entered the realm of industry leaders.. much like Apple did in the mid 2000's.. I was literally 50 feet away from Steve Jobs when he introduced the world to the iPhone at Macworld, and even though that one product launch ended up being a major moment in human history... From that moment on, Apple didn't utilize trade shows to make major product announcements...

Red's earned enough respect and attention in the global market to where they probably don't "need" trade shows as much anymore... it's customer base comes to them now... however... we're personally on the eve of diving into dsmc2, after a long hard road... and I feel like we should wait until we're sure that there won't be any market disrupting announcements from the RED crew.

Any guesses as to what, if anything, will be announced?

I don’t think RED is announcing anything major but Angeniux announced a set of Full Frame Cinema Primes and Preston announced a new hand unit (HU4)

This looks pretty interesting. I wonder if there is a measurable pulse frequency that shows up when filming higher frame rates... but I guess we dont really need nd filters for filming higher frame rates.

In any case... Im am intrigued.

I read that FUJINON was releasing a slew of large format zooms. I wonder if the theme of 2019 will be larger lenses for larger sensors.

Yes! Very excited for those! I got an email earlier today from Fuji saying they were going to show off their first short film shot on that glass this weekend!

Edit: added links to the teasers

I hope that manufacturers don't start calling Full Frame 35mm "Large Format", I know some have already and it's already confusing some folks. We have to get through medium format before we get to large format because what will they call it when we have more cameras with medium format sensors? "Jumbo Format"? Aside from that, I'm eager to see if there's any big announcements because NAB was a nice progression but still a little "same-old, same-old" this year as I was expecting more of a universal 8K push rather than the groundwork being laid out.

I was looking forward to a lot of announcements from this Cinegear, but aside from the stuff listed above, it's been pretty quiet. Hopefully more stuff to come.
