Was hoping that someone from the audio development side could augment what Jarred has already revealed (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=17565) about the nature of these upgrades:
The good news is.. we have taking this opportunity to also redesign the Audio board in parallel, resulting in audio performance that is vastly, vastly, superior. We have decided to swap all existing camera audio boards at no cost during the /i pin installation ( which is also no charge to you. )
I hope everyone is happy with these changes.. the audio performance in the production samples we have received are off the charts
rollout of the new boards is not expected till September...

this is just one of the many great improvements
So apparently professional +4dBu with standard pinning will now be the standard for the inputs. (Yea!!) I wonder what else might be coming? I assume working phantom power, naturally. New preamps? A limiter? Some way to conveniently access mic levels without menus?

We'll publish the specs in a bit.

However as much as I have been commenting that with line level inputs the existing audio board is actually very good, this new board is off the charts.

That's tremendous news, Stuart. Can't wait to hear the details.

And let me say that I greatly appreciate your consistent presence in this forum, even if a few of us have been a tad pushy.:) Audio matters a great deal to me, and I really wanted that aspect of the camera to be worthy of the picture. I'm so happy about the upgrades, and I presume you did your share to make them happen.

All of us had to bite our lips knowing the board was around the corner, and had to keep it under wraps. I have had an early version of the new board for a few weeks on my camera and used it on real jobs with real world pressure and it works tremendously. You don't know how hard it is to get that excited over your own piece of gear and not talk about it. The camera audio is really clean even with phantom power. So far I haven't had one problem with a board that is not considered a release version. Very cool.

What would be unbelievably cool is if the cameras came back with the new audio board and standard full-sized 3-pin XLR connectors! No more sound guys scratching their heads.

Anybody at Red got a 20mm drill bit?

Yeah. I'd also like to see the headphone jack output fixed at the same time. The mini plug really should be able to work with low impedance headphones IMHO.

I'll take your word for it, brother. As good as gold.

    Thanks!
