I heard that RED was able to track or at least see where it's cameras are every time a card is dumped through the metadata or an update is run. Is this true or am I just making things up?

I do know if you let RED know that a camera has been stolen, they enter that into their system. The next time the idiot who stole the camera tries to upgrade the firmware, it essentially bricks the camera.

Sorry to hear if your camera got stolen. Do report it to RED.

Unfortunately I got got. The seller hadn't transferred ownership over so I'm not able to register it under my name despite having all the records of the sale. Which I understand I guess.

So you actually have the camera in your possession? If so, whose name is it registered under? Was it stolen and then sold to you? Not sure I understand the issue.

Actually, The serial number of the camera is recorded in the metadata of the footage; no automated tracking or bricking...

No I purchased the camera which they then only shipped the a case. They had not transferred ownership though I had RED, myself and them on the email thread to do so.

They might not even have a camera and only shipped you the case... I feel very sorry for your situation...
Can you get the serial from the seller or have they stopped contact with you? Are they saying that you have the camera or should have the camera or that there was a camera in the case when shipped.
Where did this happen? US? it might help understand where the camera was coming from and where it was going.
There are a few bits of info missing here that will make all of us understand what is happening. And maybe know if we see a camera in our area for sale or being offered to start to be a little suspicious.
Can you fill in the blanks a little more?
