When the connector plate is made of plastic, this allows for some flex in the tolerances to allow slightly varied stud placements to all "fit".

With our connecting plate being aluminum, that flexing goes away, and the varied stud spacing creates this issue.

As has been noted here, there is variance in the tolerances on the actual Cine batteries - some fit, some don't. The ones we have do mount, albeit VERY snug fits.

So, we will continue to look into options on our end, but the fact the tolerances are varying this much to prevent compatibility with all Cine's blindsided us.

Stay tuned, I will post as new relevant info comes up.

I have a pair of Wooden Camera cable-less goldmounts which have been great until the latest Red firmware broke their ability to show voltage. Some people blame Red for this, but itís my understanding that Wooden Camera developed this product without Redís permission, so I believe this falls on Wooden Camera to correct.
Considering Redís own goldmount solution has tolerance issues, it would seem there is no perfect goldmount solution for DSMC2, yet. Iím sure both parties will correct their products to solve the issue. Actually, has anyone tried the Tilta flavor?
Personally Iíll probably stick with my Wooden Camera modules, only because I already own them, but itís a bummer they are going to make their customers purchase a $100 chip in order to make them compatible with the new Red firmware. Wouldnít you think they (WC) should absorb this cost and offer the new boards for free? After all, it was their business decision to build this product without being an official Red third-party module? Yes, it may cost them, but in the long run I would imagine thatís a better business decision in order to keep their customers happy.

I reached out to Anton Bauer for comment on their Cine batteries not fitting this module. They claim there are not wide tolerances in the stud spacing and have sent Red the official dimensional drawing. They are working with Red as they believe there is an "urgent need for a resolution".

Good news! Red have a new clamshell for this module that, I'm told, will accept with the AB Cine batteries. Anyone currently with one of these modules and would like it fixed should get in touch with Red Support. Thanks, Red, for sorting this out. Here's to getting battery info back up!

Received the new clamshell. The alignment on the 3-studs for the Cine batteries now works great, but you cannot engage the battery in to get a lock. The most you can do is wedge it in with some force, but then the battery can easily fall out. I've notified Red Support and will post here when I know more.

Goodness gracious, they can't seem to get this one right.

Wooden Camera 220800 works fine physically, but their site still says
"Cable-less products currently work with any 6.3 release firmware and lower. In the next 4-8 weeks time, we will offer an upgrade option to work with 7.0+ firmware. "
This has been saying the same for well over 8 weeks, so still waiting on the fix.
    But, it works.

Received another version from Red today and ... ... Anton Bauer Cine batteries fit. Percentage and voltage data also working great.

If you plan on getting one and using Cine batteries, it might be worth checking with Red to make sure you are receiving the latest design iteration. In case it helps, Trevor, Product Support Lead at Red Support, has been working with me on this and will be familiar with the situation.

Received the Module this week, and got a brand new PAGlink HC-PL94T Gold Mount battery today. However the combination does not work well, the power status display constantly jumps between voltage, percentage and time, and the displayed numbers are not correct. The voltage sometimes drops to 0% and the camera will display a warning that it will shut down soon. The Power LED light on the brain flashes red when the displayed voltage drop.

The module cannot trickle charge the battery as well. The battery charges on both of my PAGlink and Anton Bauer chargers.

I also have some Switronix HyperCore gold mount batteries that power the camera without problem with the module although the camera can only display voltage. Trickle charge also works perfectly with the HyperCore.

I have already submitted a support to Red, hope it can be solved via firmware update as I really like the PAGlink batteries and plan on buying more.

    Kwan-

I encountered the same issue you are describing with Paglink HC-PL94T Gold Mount batteries when paired with the Element Technica Gold Mount module which this Red Module is based on. I even tried multiple units with the same issue. I think with it being aluminum alloy, instead of plastic like the WC cable-less gold mount, the connection is not as flexible to different battery variations and won't fit all battery brands. Apparently the issue has not been corrected on this new module. I use PAg batteries with the WC module just fine and will wait for their module update before upgrading to firmware V7.0.0.

Hi Chad, thanks for sharing your experience with the PAGlink batteries. I tried to avoid the WC cableless module as I read many users had reported issues with it and WC still doesn't have a new board update for firmware V7.0.0. I decided to buy the RED module and thought everything should work right out of box, unfortunately it's not the case. I have been in touch with RED support through email, still couldn't fix it and it seems we find out the issue is with the batteries. Tried downgrade camera FW to prior 7.0.0 as recommended, it fixes the fault camera shut down warning but all other issues remain. I asked what Gold Mount batteries were used in developing the module and proved to be full function, however, RED do not have a list of that. They recommended Anton Bauer, but also state that it's not tested by RED. Seems strange to me.

At last a good news, I got a reply from PAG saying that they are aware of the issue themselves and a update tool for the PAGlink Gold Mount batteries will be released very soon. They are going to send me the update tool once it is available, the tool will clip into the back of the battery to update internal software, 94 and 150 version require specific update tool.

I will report back once I have received the update tool.

Chad, you might email PAG to support@paguk.com and ask for the update tool, their support is very responsive.
