I can't remember for the life of me what DIT stands for. I can tell someone all about the job...just can't remember what the letters mean, lol.

    Help!

This is true. With a film workflow, don't they usually do the DI Scan?

No. DIT is a production position, not a post position. The DIT's expertise and responsibilities lie in the camera department - setting up an electronic camera, ensuring signal or data integrity, manipulating the image and helping to create desired looks for the cinematographer, and at times designing and implementing systems to both record and distribute the image around the set. Basically, a DIT is the cinematographer's digital assistant/engineer.

What Red people are doing is making up their own version of what they think a DIT should be based on what they need an extra person on the crew to do. Their definition and the actual definition are two different things.

You seem to be on a bit of a 'definition' bender at the moment, Mike ;)

Personally I never refer to myself on-set as a DIT; only ever as a data tech or camera tech, but the word "imaging" is never in my job description.

It's a union thing... The IATSE 600 designation for on-set digital video tech that's part of the camera crew is DIT.
